That led to volunteer stints on farms in PA and eventually an Apprenticeship at Brookfield Farm in Amherst, MA where he apprenticed for 2 years and was the Assistant Farmer for 2 years. In a typical CSA program, residents who live in the area of a local farm pay an upfront fee in exchange for a weekly share of that year's harvest, spring through fall. Back in 2005 farms like Fernbrook, in Chesterfield, offered members a workshare option. They could work at the farm, helping with the harvest, in exchange for a reduced CSA fee.

Fernbrook Farms is a 230-acre (93 ha) working farm located along County Route 545 (Bordentown-Georgetown Road). (CSA) component was added in 2007. Agricultural fields of the plant nursery Sunflower field by the CSA farm store Education. In 2001, Larry and Susie Kuser established an environmental education center on the property.

Fernbrook Farm Stay
A Full Share is $715 for 26 weeks from Memorial Day to Thanksgiving. Shares may be split with a relative or another family. A Ten Week Share is $380. With the Ten Week Share, members can come any 10 weeks during the CSA season. Here are our anticipated pick-up hours for 2024: Wednesdays, 11 am - 6 pm. Thursdays, 11 am - 6 pm. Fridays, 8 am - 1 pm.
